Messi scores a goal, gets an assist as Barcelona wins Spanish Super Cup
Barcelona cruised to win the Spanish Super Cup on Wednesday, beating Sevilla 3-0 in the second leg and winning 5-0 overall. After being Sevilla on the road 2-0 on Sunday, Arda Turan scored twice and Lionel Messi scored once as the hosts dominated the second leg with smart, quick passing and clinical finishing.
With the result all but in hand after the first leg, Barca started off strong with an early goal from Turan, who then added his second less than a minute into the second half. Then Messi scored a rare header to complete the dominant scoreline.
Barca was simply better over the 180 minutes of the two legs, doing so without star attacker Neymar. The Brazilian is in his country with the national team playing in the Summer Olympics, where it will play for the gold on Saturday against Germany.
The win on Wednesday saw Messi lift his first pro trophy ever as captain.
